2 weeks in the French Alpes

Wow… It has already been two weeks since I arrived at my new destination; Castellane, located in the Alpes-Haute-Provence. Time for an update! Not everything really went as plan… Such as a mattress that was not rolled, oups. Luckily I had some good friends that helped me out. Really grateful for that. In the end all worked out, and I am so happy to be living my dream. Often following dreams always contains some sort of risk, a fear… ‘What if it does not work out, what if something happens, what if I don’t like it.’ You cannot stop questions like this from going through your head. But at the end of the day you should NEVER give up on your dream. Like they say in French ‘Mieux vaut des remords que des regrets‘. Which means, it is better to have remorse than regrets.

So Friday the 1st of October after a 13-hour ride I arrived home, did the house check and emptied my car. The apartment was much better than expected. I have a lot of space, nice bathrooms and a nice kitchen. It is located on the 4th floor which gives me an amazing view of the famous Roc of the village. I even do not want to sleep with the curtains closed due to the beautiful view that I wake up to haha!

The weekend was all about cleaning, decorating, doing grocery shopping at the market and a lot more cleaning. I even got a pigeon in my bathroom Saturday night! Probably didn’t close the window well, which resulted in more cleaning LOL.

At the local market I got some beautiful high quality sheep skins and I went to Digne-les-baigns to get some plants and pillows.

The first two weeks of working went well, although the big storm on Monday. It was like there was a river coming through the street. I need to be honest and say that I have had moments where I thought ‘Why did I move here’. But then when the sky clears up, the beautiful views are calming again and I walk around here in nature, I know it again. This is what I fell in love with. Other days I started hiking before work, looking at breathtaking views and thinking ‘It feels like I am still dreaming…’.

And until this day I can say, I am so happy that I took this step. I feel like I am really at my place. And when I look outside of my window every morning… I feel so blessed to have gotten this opportunity.
